Hi everyone, its time for the first ever Make the Day Special challenge!

Would you like to win some stamps???

What you have to do:

You do not have to use our stamps but if you do your name will be entered twice. Winner will be chosen at random on Saturday 31st July. Please link up to your blog or online gallery bellow, if you don't have either and want to enter, email your entry to me at emily@makethedayspecial.co.uk

Do invite your friends to take part, the more people who join in the better, we all love checking out other peoples work!!!

The prize is a selection of gorgeous stamps from Unity....

Summer of love

Have you seen the Make the Day Special Competition? Since Emily is feeling all summery and giving away some gorgeous Unity stamps, I thought I'd join in the fun and make a card that reflected Emily's Summer-time theme. I rummaged and rummaged and rummaged through my stamp drawers, but couldn't find anything suitable summery. I did however, find this cute stamp from the Cats Pyjamas 'Loving Mew' set and gave it a seasonal twist adding a sentiment using my Sizzix machine:

Stamp: The Cat's Pyjamas Loving Mew
Paper: Hippie Chick DCWV
Ink: Versacolor Rose Red
Other: brads, Sizzix Girls are Weird alphabet, ribbon, glossy accents

Thanks for dropping in.

Don't forget the competition is open until Saturday...so get the ice-creams out, flip flops on and get stamping!

Shabby Chic Unity Flowers

I was asked to make a card by a Friend for their Auntie and who loves flowers and the lovely Flower stamp from the Adventures in Happiness kit which is available from Make the Day Special immediately sprang to my mind. I love the simplicity of the design of these flowers and the fact they can be embellished with buttons and gems to make them look different every time.

To make the card, I used a square card blank and cut a section from the front at an angle. I covered the card with the Papermania Rose Garden papers and added a strip of ribbon down the cut edge of the front of the card.
I stamped and coloured my flowers and cut them out with a Nesties shape which I matted on to a scalloped circle cut from pink card. This was then mounted to the card front with foam pads making sure I only stuck them where they would not show!
I embellished my flowers with a button and gems, added a bow and a sentiment from the paper pack and some letters to spell out Auntie which are also in the pack and a couple of punched butterflies.
Have a lovely Friday!

Enjoy the moment

Hello, I'm still busy inking up the June store kit from Unity. I have used the bird stamp from life becoming. The sentiment is also from Unity but a different kit.

I used some Kraft card stock to make the card and have added some white paper to line it Ive then punched two holes and added the ribbon. For the front of the card i embossed the bird and sentiment using a sparkly black powder then used distress inks and glimmer mists to get that gorgeous blue. I mounted it on white card to finish it off.
Here is a close up just to show off the embossing. Love the way the black pops out from the blue background.

Thanks for looking.

A Happy Life heart hanger

I received a wooden heart blank as an RAK recently and have been wanting to alter it and make it into a hanger for a while. I decided the Happy Life sentiment from the Adventures in Happiness kit available from Make the Day special would be perfect to embellish the heart.

I first cut strips of tulle which I sewed a running stitch through to created a ruched frill which I stuck to the heart with my glue gun. I drew around the heart on to ledger paper to make a shape to cover the front and back of the heart and distressed the edges with inks. I then stamped my sentiment before sticking the heart shape to the heart blank. I added a string hanger and embellished with flowers, ribbon, buttons and pearls.
Make sure you check out all the new stamps at Make the Day Special. Unity are now making Cosmo Cricket stamps and Emily has 3 new adorable sets available!
Have a great Friday.

Enjoy this day

Today I have a quick 8" x 8" scrapbook layout to show you using stamps from the June Unity store kit.

I used a base of October Afternoon grid paper and stamped the floral stamp straight on to it using Memento ink before colouring it with Promarkers. The frame stamp was also stamped directly on the paper with Memento ink and then I journalled inside it. The "enjoy this day" stamp was then stamped down alongside the photo.

Wedding Congratulations!

Love is in the air and we are now slap bang in the middle of the Wedding Season. I had another play with my 'Be my Bridesmaid' set from My Cute Stamps available from Make the Day Special and made a wedding card in non traditional colours. I used some of my new Basic Grey and Pink Paislee papers which I matted and layered and stitched with my Sewing Machine.

I paper pieced the wedding dress using some dotty papers and coloured the rest of the image with Promarkers. I wrapped organza ribbon around the front of the card before fixing it to the base.
I mounted the image on to the card using foam pads and added a sentiment from the set, lots of cream flowers and lovely pearls.
I hope you have a lovely Friday.

Hello Dolly

I received this gorgeous set from My Cute Stamps last week and had so much fun playing with it. I love ALL the adorable stamps included in the set and used four of them to create this card:

I started with a plain white card and stamped in black the flower in various directions to create the background. I then had trouble matching the black of my ink with black dp that I had, so I used a sponge and the black ink to create my own paper that would match perfectly! I whizzed this through my sewing machine to add a little detail and then paper pieced the Russian dolls for the centre piece. I also used a black glaze pen to highlight some of the details on the dolls - I really like the effect. I finished off the card with the border stamp & sentiment stamp and some ribbon.

Thanks for visiting,

Ooh La La!!

When I first opened this pack of My Cute Stamps - "Paris" my first thought was "Ooh La La!". I decided to make a card using a pastel flowery design.

I used a floral paper to make the background and sewed around all the edges. I stamped the Eiffel Tower stamp on patterned paper and then cut it out and mounted with foam pads. The Paris stamp was stamped on to a pre-made die-cut and I stamped the tiny flourish in the top corner.

Materials used: Papermania papers, My Cute Stamps - Paris, Memento ink,  The Girls' Paperie die-cut, Papermania alphabet die-cuts, Dovecraft pearl brad, vintage lace and paper roses.

A Thank you tag

I recently received the gorgeous 'Be my Bridesmaid' stamps by My Cute Stamps which you can find here at Make the Day special. The images in the set are so gorgeous and girly, I couldn't wait to ink them up!
I decided to make something other than a card for a change and embellished a chipboard tag which can be added to a Bridesmaid's gift.

To make the tag, I stamped the sentiment onto a strip of gingham paper and added it to the bottom of the tag. I layered this with some cream flowery paper and covered the join with lace. I stamped the image onto smooth white card. coloured it in with Promarkers and cut it out, adding gems to the flowers.
I threaded the tag with girly pink ribbon and added 2 prima flowers and small roses with my glue gun.
As a finishing touch, I dotted around a couple more gems.
I really like this colour scheme and I am planning to use the leftovers from the tag to make a matching card.
I hope you have a great Friday!

All distressed today - don't worry, I'm not distressed but my make is LOL!

I have been playing with the Layers of Color stamp set called Joyful Noise, so pretty. I made a little distressed tag which was actually inspired by the project idea on the back of the stamp set packet.

I've grunged up the papers with my seam ripper and distress inks, with a little tear here and there.

Hope you are having a fabulous Distressed day.
Kim
