Tons of Christmassy Thanks!

Hi there!
Thanks to Lydia kindly swapping with me, you've got me today instead! If you've come to see Lydia, just check back to Tuesday!

So, I decided to make a non- Christmas set, a little seasonal. I saw this adorable elephant and knew she would just look perfect in a Christmas jumper
http://www.makethedayspecial.co.uk/shop.php#!/Tons-of-Fun/p/54809010/category=9064880

I am totally not one of the ugly-Christmas-jumper-wearing club, but I have to admit that this jumper is cute. I've used the tiny stars from the set to make the stars on his jumper and also the stars on the little socks that are festooned on the tree. Speaking of socks.. I used these ones from the 'Take A Load Off' set
http://www.makethedayspecial.co.uk/shop.php#!/Take-A-Load-Off/p/35349270/category=9064880
I had the little scene in my mind and so used one of the presents from the Tons of Fun set as the base for my tree. I used this fab Lawn Fawn paper pack 'Let's Bokeh in the Snow'. Usefully, the paper makes it look like the Christmas tree has lights on- so even better!

I simply cut out a simple tree shape, added foam pads underneath it and then added it to the card. Using the socks from the other set, I coloured them, added a white embossed star on each one and placed them on the tree. I even cut into Ellie's trunk so she could hold one of the socks in her trunk which just gave a little bit of cohesion to the scene.
I chickened out with the sentiment. Yes, I was wanting to say thanks and this card will come in handy for saying Thankyou after Christmas, but I stamped on a piece of spare cardstock whilst deciding where the sentiment was going to go and then worried I'd mis-stamp it so just adhered the sentiment onto the card! (a handy tip for newbie stampers...and old-hands too!).

Well, hope my sock-hanging Ellie made you smile and gave you some ideas for using your non-Christmas sets in a new and fresh way!

See you next week!

Colouring Basics

Hi! Hope you enjoyed Jenny's fabulously coloured cards yesterday. Today, I've kept it pretty simple.. plus this is a great example of how to hide your mistakes.
So, I've used the same set as last week from Sugar Pea Designs
http://www.makethedayspecial.co.uk/shop.php#!/Take-A-Load-Off/p/35349270/category=9064880
Now, I've kept the colouring really simple- and been playing around with the blender pen again. I've done a close-up to show you that you really need to blend for the best effects. Everything else on the card is blended well- I simply go over with the lightest colour, and don't use the blender pen overly. Look at the next picture- I've left the blue bear unblended- you can really see how the harsh lines don't help the dimension at all.

So, the mistakes?
I stamped the clothes and added the line of black for the washing line..I wanted a very CAS look to the card. Sadly, I'd had a little bite to eat during crafting..and...there was a mark (possibly chocolate, but I really wouldn't like to admit to that!).
So, the grass 'cover-up' was born. I ended up with not enough 'grass' for the width but decided to leave that 'carefully planned' (!) element as it was.
As I'd solved that issue, I managed to get ink on a bit of grass. A lot more sighing later, decided to 'hide' the ink by way of Glossy Accents on the grass. A 'dewy' glow all over the grass. You can spy a little if you look at the photo.
As I looked and felt moderately smug, I noticed a water stain on the 'grass'.
Arggh. Too late. I'd adhered it down.
So, washi tape to the rescue.
Most mistakes are coverable. I'm not used to having to solve 3 on one project!
My colouring tip for today? Use your blender pen to create patterns on solid parts of your coloured image. Look closely- you'll see spots, stripes and dashes, all courtesy of the blender pen!

Hope your projects are mess and mistake free!
See you next week,

A Lot of Dirty Laundry!

Hey! Hope your Tuesday is going well. This week I thought I'd do some colouring (or coloring if you're not a Brit!). Now, I'm still learning- I have tons to learn still so taking on a larger scale bit of colouring was probably a bit ambitious. But I had great fun combining some simple techniques with Copics, Shin Han & Promarkers.
The set I've used is this one by Sweet Pea Designs
http://www.makethedayspecial.co.uk/shop.php#!/Take-A-Load-Off/p/35349270/category=9064880
I made this card with a mama in mind who has a ton of kids like me- and actually if you say 'dirty laundry'- she'll immediately think of the mountaineous piles of clothes ready to wash!

I wanted to try and do something different with the scene which is why I die-cut a circle out of the area & raised the frame up whilst leaving the base on the bottom! I've added details using the blender pens (like around the clouds) and also added fun detailing with a gel pen.

Do grab some pens and have fun with colouring. You can equally fun effects with pencils or watercolours. There are lots of images suitable in the store- do go and have a nosey
Look out for the other talented teamies this week- we've all gone a little colouring crazy!

See you next week,
Keren xx

Throwback Thursday

Hello!
I hope you are having a great day-the sun is shining and it is nearly the weekend, yay!

Todays card is made using the incredibly cute Sugar Pea Designs Love you Bunches. This is not my normal style of card,so I am on new territory here! But I just love this stamp, its so cute. I dont think there is a single little girl that has never thrust a bunch of 'weeds' into their mothers hands at some point <3

I used Avery Elle Simply Said Hello die . The image is watercoloured using Distress inks.

I hope you like it as much as I enjoyed something new!

'SugarPea' Washing!

Hey!
Isn't it the perfect day to go and do loads of washing?! Before you splutter your tea out, I'm not a fan of washing either but this set nearly makes me want to get the machine going!
This is the set from one of our lovely new companies; SugarPea Designs

It's a larger set & there's tons of scope with this collection. You can see I've just used parts of the washing line
I've simply cut out a slightly larger shape after tracing around the outside of the stamp. I've added the line and hearts with a black gel pen & cut the sentiment stamp in half to give me more flexibility with the set. There's tons you can do with this..I'd love to see how you create with the set.
Don't forget about our challenge
You've until the 23rd April to link up any card with a set found in the Make The Day Special store & there's a fab prize of £15 store credit. We'd love to see you joining in!

Righto- better go and get some new sets inky!

See you next week,
